Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs
of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered
nurses, pharmacists, and respiratory therapists, involved in
the management of patients with chronic airway infections.
Program Overview
In this activity, participants will make choices at various decision
points in a series of case studies that affect the treatment of several
pulmonary diseases. These choices will serve as departure
points for review of the most recent understandings and data
on the subject of discussion, in an effort to improve the health
care provider’s evidence-based clinical decision-making skills,
and ultimately lead to improved patient care. This monograph
discusses three important respiratory diseases and will present
one case study for each section.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better
able to:
* Identify the scope of the problem that P aeruginosa infection
presents to patients with CF
* Compare existing and novel treatment modalities for treatment
of P aeruginosa in patients with CF
* Identify the underlying cause of non-CF bronchiectasis in
order to design an effective management strategy
* Identify the recommended therapies to be administered at
various stages of COPD progression
* Discuss the most recent data on the use of antibiotics for the
treatment of acute exacerbations of COPD

Method of Participation
There are no fees for participating and receiving CME credit for this activity.
